The helmet Arai X Tour 4 is one of the first helmets that arrived at MotoCenter Levante when the Japanese helmet brand chose us as distributors in Spain. Since then, we have discovered in Arai a brand that is synonymous with safety and yet does not neglect design. So much so, that has managed to mold the two fields, so that they offer a perfect symbiosis that materializes, among many others, in this magnificent Tour X4.
The outer shell made of Complex Fibre Laminate (CFL), the specific fiber composite created by the brand Arai, makes it one of the most resistant helmets on the market. This complex safety system for impact absorption created by the Japanese brand is able to dissipate all the power of the impact by distributing the force of the impact around the entire shell. This causes a distribution of forces that is spread throughout the helmet, thus reducing the force concentrated in the impact zone.
There are other small aspects of the helmet that show the special interest that Arai has in the safety of this helmet, such as the double ring closure or the nasal protector on top of the chin guard orthe emergency opening system in case of a fall.
The FCS (Facial Contour System) is designed to offer an even more precise fit and improved comfort in the lower chin area. The system works by means of a spring-loaded support with a foam surface on the cheek pad that compresses and rebounds, providing the necessary support without excessive pressure.
There are different thicknesses inside the helmet, always taking as a reference the cranial perimeter to adjust the size. Once the latter has been adapted, we will proceed to choose the side padding for a more precise fit. As always, this type of padding is removable and easily washable.
Already the visor of this X4 shows us that it is a helmet specially designed for a refined ventilation and aerodynamics. Its large number of easy-to-clean air inlets and outlets generate an intense Venturi effect vacuum at the rear. The double inlet allows greater airflow and reduces noise so that it will be pleasant even for the most demanding at high speeds.
An air inlet located under the visor to which we refer, captures the cool air and conducts it into the helmet, where a pleasant flow of air is generated to combat heat and perspiration. The ventilation system is also present in the jaw area with a closure system that controls the flow of air directed to the chin area.
The three-position chin vent facilitates the elimination of visor fogging and provides the rider with renewed fresh air. The inner shutter of the chin vent prevents dust from entering the helmet when riding in dusty environments. Front ventilation, lower side vents and air outlet at the neck.
The Arai visor collects air and forces it into the front vent ports to provide cooling, while using multiple exhaust ports to reduce "lift" at high speeds. In this way, we avoid the commonly called "sail effect" that pushes our head back and makes it difficult for us to ride and comfortably stabilize our neck.
And all this work of aerodynamics and treatment of air and heat has a positive impact on visibility. Thanks to its vents at the top of the screen, we will avoid fogging of the helmet visor when it is closed. It helps to minimize wind noise and also facilitates the extraction of hot air from the face area.
Its entire design is aimed at effectively preventing the visor from fogging or misting up, preventing the field of vision from being reduced, even in extreme conditions of humidity. Nevertheless, it incorporates the well-known pinlock that can be easily cleaned and replaced.
To increase safety and maintain its low weight, this Arai Tour X4 does not have a built-in inner sun visor. Arai has the particularity of having its own sun visor that is adaptable to its helmets and is located on the outside, so that it can be raised and lowered as a second screen on the helmet.
This allows it, among other things, to serve as a visor and is adjustable so that we do not necessarily have to wear the full goggle, but only the one that covers the area where the sun detracts from our visibility.
