A motorcycle helmet is the fundamental and indispensable element for anyone who wants to enjoy the pleasure of riding a motorcycle. It keeps the head, which is the most important part of the body, safe in the event of an accident. Beyond the fact that Spanish law requires you to wear it when riding a motorcycle, for safety reasons you should never, ever get on a two-wheeled vehicle without it.

Motorcycle helmets: 3 different types

There are three main types of motorcycle helmets in the motorcycle helmet catalog, although it is true that there are multiple subdivisions. In any case, we will talk about the main models, which are: the full-face helmet, the modular motorcycle helmet and the jet helmet.

The full-face helmet is by far the safest. It protects the entire head, forming a single piece from top to bottom and from front to back. Being totally compact, it is the most resistant to impacts, always ensuring that the head does not impact directly against the ground under any circumstances, nor weakening in specific areas where several pieces are joined together.

Modular helmets are the most versatile. They perform the functions of the full-face helmet but can be opened from the chin guard upwards. They are often useful for those who get off the bike regularly and, by opening the chin piece, can engage in a fluid conversation without having to remove the helmet. In addition, if it has the appropriate homologation, it could even be circulated with the helmet open, so you would do the functions of a full-face helmet and a jet helmet.

On the downside of the modular helmet: we lose security in the part where the upper shell and the chin guard meet, so a blow to specific areas of the piece could break it more easily.

Of the three, the jet helmet is the least safe. It leaves the chin part exposed, protecting only the upper part of the head. However, it is a very useful helmet, especially in urban areas, because it is easy to put on and take off. It is also an excellent choice for summer because it is by far the coolest and most ventilated of the three types.
